Intro To Teaching After School Art

Many community learning centers, school districts, YMCA's, YWCA's, and Boys and Girls clubs are searching for a top notch quality after school art program to incorporate into their curriculum. As one begins their research, look for those programs that achieve the most steadfast and amazing results.  Determine whether the program truly empowers the teachers, facilitators, or volunteers.  Also, ask yourself whether the curriculum is user friendly and comprehensive enough in order for anyone to be able to teach the curriculum.  One last initial question to ask yourself is whether the after school art program works with charter, district run, independent, and non traditional schools. In our society today, more than 28 million children in school have parents who work outside of their home.  As many as 15 million of these children come home to emptiness when they return home after school.  Moderate to serious juvenile crime also seems to escalate within the hours of 3PM to 6PM and demonstrate the need for effective after school art programs.Engagement in art education programs, specifically after school art, can easily increase academic achievement, help minimize youth involvement in delinquent behaviors and improve our youth's outlook both about themselves and their future. Many various types of after school art programs tend to provide all important access to a child's learning and social development and also add a special dimension to a child's learning process. The lack of top notch, quality art teaching education within the regular school day hours has caused an explosion of art activities within informal education settings such as after school art programs and extended day programs.Be part of growing movement of professionals who are devoted to the well being of all of our children and youth, especially to those talented children who have limited access or exposure to quality, life changing art.
